There are few more exciting scenes in sport than seeing a top class field athlete winding up to attempt to snatch the lead with their final throw or jump.

The tension in the stadium builds, the crowd concentrate and the rhythmic handclap begins. Twenty seconds later comes elation or despair. There's no middle ground and that's why we will witness both heartbreak and joy every day of the Competition..

Field events, for both men and women, include the long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot-putt, discus, javelin and hammer throw.
