Six of the Sierra Leone athletes who had been
reported missing from the Commonwealth Games have been found on
Sydney's northern beaches.
The group was found this morning after
a tip-off.
The three men and three women have told
police they plan to ask Australian authorities to allow them to stay
in the country. Police say the immigration department has been
advised of their wishes.
Last night the Commonwealth Games Federation
cancelled the athletes' accreditation at the urging of Sierra Leone
team officials - a move which meant their athlete's special purpose
visas were rendered invalid as of midnight.
On Sunday Sierra Leone team officials told
police that a total of 14 members from their 22-strong Games
delegation had gone missing.
Meanwhile nine athletes from Cameroon were
reported missing last night.
