An unbelievable race, the Australian was the meat in
an African sandwich was how the race was described by the
commentator. The three Kenyans went out hard trying to break Mottram
who sat in fourth place for most of the race. The Kenyan trio played
games with Mottram, changing the pace of the race trying to break
him but the tough Australian kept hot on their heels. With three
laps to go Mottram gave it his best shot and took the lead.
He looked as if he had this race sorted
giving his all and lead till the last lap. To the amazement of
all the Kenyan came around Mottram to go into the lead. Augustine
Choge put on a burst of speed a sprinter would be proud of ,crossing
the line in a new commonwealth games record time of
12:56:41,Mottram’s silver medal time was 12: 58:19.The bronze went
to Kenya’s Benjamin Limo who won silver in Manchester.
